Google Instant
Posted by Matt in General Posts, Google, Web on September 9, 2010
Can’t recall if it was AT&T or Verizon who said that Google was “free loading” on their network.
In other words, using an extreme amount of bandwidth when “not necessary”
So now Google Instant has been launched. Adding to the suggested search queries catalog, Google now automatically loads popular searches as you type. A great feature indeed.
I Say: Great for Broadband Users, bad for Dial-up users.
But who uses Dial-Up anymore? Apparently there is still a 10% who do.
Also, this was very interesting:

By the time you try & search for this they may have already removed it, But I caught it.
I still love you Google, don’t feel bad.
Facebook Causes…
Posted by Matt in Facebook, General Posts, Google, Microsoft, Rants, Social Networking on March 25, 2010
According to Google, Yahoo, and Bing…
Facebook causes divorce, depression, jealousy, and even cancer.
Now I’m sure that once this gains enough attention Google will take it down, along with Yahoo and Bing following the same path.
Grab your screen shots now, or take the ones I’ve provided below.

Going down that list, we learn
- Facebook causes divorce
- Facebook causes application [this confused me at first. It's probably the Facebook Causes application, says Marshall Kirkpatrick ]
- Facebook causes depression
- Facebook causes donations [hey, something positive!]
- Facebook causes internet explorer to crash [clearly unfair to investor and partner Microsoft]
- Facebook causes app [probably to crash]
- Facebook causes jealousy
- Facebook causes problems [see, Facebook is the universal cause of all problems]
- Facebook causes statistics [probably stats on things that Facebook causes]
- Facebook causes cancer [it was in the Daily Mail; it must be true]
From SearchEngineLand.com
Lest we forget about Yahoo & Bing:

Facebook again causes issues such as problems, divorce, cancer and depression. But we also get new things that Facebook causes:
- Facebook causes affairs
- Facebook causes breakups
- Facebook causes jealously
- Facebook causes reentry
- Facebook causes non profits
Not as much of an impact with Bing, but still saying it causes divorce.

Umm.. I think Twitter Counter is Broken
Posted by Matt in Facebook, General Posts, Kid's Show, MySpace, Twitter, Twitter Counter on January 22, 2010
Well, I do believe something has gone terribly wrong at TwitterCounter.com
As you can tell from the chart above, even though my Twitter profile stays the same, the counter on my site and the direct stats from Twitter Counter shows I have 0 followers.
Yes, I know, this isn’t really something important for me to complain about. However, I just figured I would share with you something that has happened. After all, isn’t that the point of this whole online blogging thing? And with Twitter slowly ruling the world like it is today (along side Facebook — only a few years ago it was Myspace ruling the web…) I figured what better place to talk about Twitter and twitter related issues than on my site!
On another note: I received a few emails regarding Kids Show… I am thinking about putting Kids Show 1 & 2 back up, but I do not know just yet.
Something that amuses me:
DJ Steve Porter featuring Vince Offer – “Slap Chop Rap” and “Jam Wow”
I first saw this late at night on Comedy Central. I actually had a friend not even believe that I had seen it on TV. It is amazing.
Vince is making a come back!

Updates on the Posterous confusion:
I am using Posterous now to upload pictures, videos, etc to my blog (in hopefully, what I consider, to be much faster than the traditional way) and so far everything is working out great. You email whatever it is you want posted, and away it goes. You can then set up whether or not you want people to be notified via Twitter, Facebook, along with many other social networking sites. The whole idea is a great concept, amazing idea, and really handy.
Except one thing: I’m an idiot. On my Posterous account (Along with Twitter & YouTube) you will see where I uploaded a video, sent via email to my posterous personalized email address. Everything went right, Twitter was notified. YouTube uploaded the video. So why didn’t it show up on my blog? Just like I said before, I’m an idiot. You can even figure out what I’m talking about by just watching my video.
In order to allow Posterous to post anything on my blog, I had to create a username and password that only they knew to get into here. Well, it doesn’t do much good when their role is at Contributor. That is where I made my big mistake. No wonder anything I tried to post never would make it here. The role has now been set as Author, so Posterous should will now be able too post whatever I see fit to my blog. Hurray!
For those of you using WordPress and made the same silly mistake I did, maybe you should remember this:
- Administrator – Somebody who has access to all the administration features
- Editor – Somebody who can publish posts, manage posts as well as manage other people’s posts, etc.
- Author – Somebody who can publish and manage their own post
- Contributor – Somebody who can write and manage their posts but not publish posts
- Subscriber – Somebody who can read comments/comment/receive news letters, etc.
Ah, life.
Ocean Has A Myspace Too…

Some of you may be familiar with my cat, Ocean.
Well, even if you aren’t — you should add her on MySpace.
That’s all for now, more later. very busy

The Michigan Trip Has Come To An End
Permalink: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgis8av32-8
The Michigan trip has come to an end, next month is Nebraska. Hopefully, I will post some videos while on the road. But don’t bet on it, I enjoy my sleep on road trips, along with I’ll be driving some, and the fact that I’m lazy.
Help! I’ve registered my domain with Vizaweb and I think it’s gone for good!
Posted by Matt in Tips & Tricks, Web on June 4, 2009
Don’t fret, because your domain CAN BE SAVED.
The original way to get out of Vizaweb was to contact them (which now, simply just doesn’t happen) and they would gladly move your domain to ‘domains.vizaweb.com’. Well, now when you visit that link you see an “Index of /” page – meaning they’ve completely wiped out their domain system. UGGH! Luckily, I have a solution for those of you who registered through Vizaweb and need a way out.
First off, you need to purchase a “domain name transfer” from another registrar company (Such as GoDaddy, Dotster, etc).
Once you’ve done this, you need to contact the company Vizaweb uses for their registrations (Public Domain Registry), which can be done here: https://support.publicdomainregistry.com/support/index.jsp
Explain to them the situation you are having with Vizaweb and your domain. Within 24-48 Hours you should receive a response back with your Authorization code right in the email. It is recommended to give them the Administrator email address or registrant email address for the domain, if possible, but I’d say with the amount of emails they have been getting about Vizaweb — they won’t even ask questions and just send you the code.
You will use this code to start the transfer ‘authorization’ from Vizaweb to your new registrar.
From there, you will receive an email to your Administrator email address from “Vizaweb Inc” (the email will be from do_not_reply@myorderbox.com) saying that they have received the transfer request and in 4-5 days, the transfer will be automatically accepted.
Ta Da! No more Vizaweb!
Another note: (People with access to their cPanel) Don’t forget to request a complete site back up for your domain and talk to your new host about accepting backup files.
Hope this helps.
Goodbye Vizaweb
Well, I finally made the switch. After hosting with Vizaweb for a good solid 5 years, as of March 23rd, 2009 — Matt Fowler dot Business was successfully hosted and ran successfully under Site5.com hosting. I’ve already noticed some very significant differences after I did this. My page, at least to me for sure, loads a lot faster. Probably because I’m sure Site5 actually pays attention to their servers.
To Rick Mueller, CEO of Vizaweb:
No offense to you, or your company, but there were certain things that kept happening that sparked a scare in losing everything I got. Not to mention, the up time decreased rapidly over the years, and plus even the support forum went to the spammers. Also, what happened to the phone support? It went from getting an answer, getting an occasional answer, to getting no answer at all. I’m sorry, but there are certain problems that need to be assessed immediately — and having phone support helps. Then came live chat, well that lasted a good 3-4 months, and then it went permanently offline. Then, the downtime went from bad to catastrophic. My site was down for a solid week a couple of times with no explanation. I just can’t handle that from my host. Though I’ll probably never know what happened to the company I once trusted and sent many people too, I hope that it is only temporary and that the company comes back full force and back to the way they were.
The move over had a little struggle, due to DNS IP problems, but all was fixed within 24 hours, and I will commend the Site5 support team for sticking with me and helping me out with every little issue that was beyond my command. I also have a Dynamic IP now, which, though is common for most people — is something new for me!
Yes, Brick Hill Publishing (my Grandma’s book website) was also moved to Site5. Not sure if anybody even wanted to know about that, but you know now.
I also thank a co-Moderator in the Vizaweb Support forum, yardbird, for turning me onto Site5. I’ve been pleased so far, and it’s only the beginning of the road. I signed up for a 3-year host, so we’ll see how it goes.
Until next time
Kid’s Show – Episode 2 – “Bubbles Likes to Dance”
Posted by Matt in Kid's Show, Music, Web, YouTube on March 12, 2009
Freshly uploaded, for your viewing pleasure, “Kid’s Show – Episode 2 – Bubbles Likes to Dance“.
Watch it now on YouTube: (Available in HD)
Episode 2: Bubbles Likes to Dance
And if you are completely confused, it’s probably because you never watched the first episode. Making a little bit more sense now?
Well, then let me try and explain (for those of you either curious or still not getting what all this madness is):
Basically, Kid’s Show, [which started out "A Kid's Show" but then the A was dropped after the release of the second episode] was an attempt to defeat & mutilate boredom. In other words, I sat down one day with a webcam on (with some effects on to make everything distorted) and starting improvising if I was hosting a slightly strange children’s show. The first episode talked very little about history — that Benjamin Franklin was overweight — and that Children should never attempt to eat a pair of keys, and should only be performed by “trained professionals”.
Bubbles himself is a strange character, played by me (obviously), he’s very easily amused, and is definitely most known for his odd looks at the camera, along with Grunts of Pure Happiness. (see Episode 2 to see why that is in bold) Whether or not he’ll help “the children” become better adults, we’ll never know, but for now he definitely is keeping them (and everybody else) amused.
Whether or not the show is actually kid friendly is your own judgment, as of episodes 1 & 2, there have been no cursing or sexual references, — with that being said; so far the show is clean. But that does not mean anything. The actual directed audience for this little thing I’ve started is unknown, I guess you could say I just feel whoever wants to watch it — should watch it.
The second episode ran off from the very very slightly educational part of the show and introduced a new idea to “Kid’s Show” — Music. Bubbles now has his own interactive music set up that has millions of different sounds and loops to add to the show. (cough Garageband cough)
The greatest thing about this show so far is that both episodes have been totally made up on the spot. The light to signal recording went on, and the crazy happened. None of it was rehearsed, or anything , just total improv. I love it!
Sound like something you’d like? Or at least want to see why I’ve put this much efffort writing about it? Then what are you waiting for!!
